⚠️ Our GP teams are under pressure at the moment, with lots of requests coming in for urgent advice. Phone lines are very busy and that may mean there is a small delay when you contact your surgery.

But we are still here to help.

 

We know how stressful it can be when you or a loved one is unwell, but we ask for a little patience and understanding when you contact your GP surgery for support.

 

GPs rely on receptionists and care navigators to advise patients and make sure they see the best person to help them. This may be a doctor, or could be a pharmacist, nurse, physiotherapist, local wellbeing coordinator, or someone else in your local network of support. Whoever it is, please trust us, you are receiving the most appropriate NHS care.

 

You may think of a receptionist as the voice at the end of a phone, or the person behind the desk, but each and every one is specially trained to help prioritise and signpost patients.

 

They are an indispensable part of the team and know – better than anyone else – where you can go to get help in the community. They fully respect patient confidentiality too so anything you tell them will only be used to help you get the support you need.

Your local pharmacy team is still there for advice and support but they need your help.

 

Like other NHS services, pharmacies are under a lot of pressure, which means things might be a bit different to what you’re used to when you visit. You may have to wait a little bit longer than usual, at different times certain services may not be available and your local branch may have to change its opening hours.

 

Please rest assured that any changes are only short term and we thank you for your patience and understanding when things aren’t quite as you expect them to be.

 

Some ways that you can help take the pressure off your local pharmacy team are:

1. When you request a repeat prescription, allow 7 working days from ordering to collection

2. When you take a non-repeat prescription in to the pharmacy, consider coming back later on or the next day to get your medication if you can

3. Wear a face covering when you visit to protect yourself, our staff and other customers

Make sure you don’t run out by allowing 7 working days between ordering your new prescription and collecting your medication.

 

This will also give your GP and pharmacist plenty of time to process it.

 

If you will need more medication by 17 January order it today (5 January).
